Relatives: Green Coronatus, Dark Coronatus and Lighting Coronatus
At the end of zone W, which I can't remember, the background shifts to the traditional Darius-swirly-thing, and we even get thingies! And then we
run into the Coronatus with the nicest-sounding name yet. But when will they give us a Radiant Coronatus? An Odorant Coronatus? Bah...
Tips:As the very first pic in the page suggests, VC is warming up to shoot you. Nice fat straight laser from the base of his body, top of his tail, and a mildly nasty three-laser arc from his mouth. His head is the only weak spot as of now. Following this, things get hairier. The straight laser keeps at it, but the tail now fires a three-(big) bullet arc. Eventually his tail curls up, rendering him largely bullet-proof (not the first one to do that: even Deadly Crescent and Crusty Hammer do that to an extent). He then fires out ghost images of his tail segments (the purple things which look like chicken wings in the pic) which are also bullet-proof or heavily armoured at you, and fires a set of lasers that 'look like soda straws' which bounce back at you when they reach the bottom of the screen. They are easy to dodge if you just stay between them (it's easier when you're actually doing it, believe me).As he gets wounded though they break into many seperate sections so you have to weave through them.
Now comes Vermillion Coronatus' killer app. Knowing my luck, I missed this pic, but he fires a tractor beam from his tail and holds you for a while, long enough to unleash a beam from his spout (looks like Great Thing's beam, if you've seen it), followed by a bunch of rainbow seeker lasers. Unlike Great Thing, I don't remember if the beam chases you. Lather, rinse, repeat. Until his head armour is blown off. He then cycles between two attacks.
The first one is just the same purple tail segment attack (you can try bombing his head if you feel like it, it's risky) which has the first laser attacks plus the rainbow homing lasers thrown in to make you move it. When he's had enough of that, he splits apart (and largely stays bulletproof) and indulges in an orgy of bulletspamming. No fancy patterns, just some basic arcs and straight bullets with anchor thingies. However, look where I am in the pic. Believe it or not, it's a blind spot! The things in-between the segments fire the bullets at you, and can be hit. The cycling continues until you kill him.
And so, in the end:
What next, King Fossil in shades calling Proco "Mr. An-der-son"? Granted, it's a throwback to Darius to have an ending like this. Kudos to Andi Hagen for providing information about attacks I have long since forgotten
