Stop laughing. In spite of the name, Fatty Glutton is a mouthful whichever way you look at it, in every Darius Game he's appeared in as a boss. I wonder what was running through the minds in Taito when they strung that name with this guy together (Mem to self:need to rewrite this later).
Fatty Glutton as he first was. Hard-core Darius fans claim that this is the 'best' Fatty Glutton to date, since it made you dance around with just two attacks. More pix coming...
Tips:Fatty Glutton's chief attack, and the one that will cause you the most grief, is his launching of a little Glutton. All's fine and good with that, but he spilts into a four-bullet arc which zooms in on you. I have forgotten whether the fish can be destroyed, so bear with me. To liven up proceedings, he also fires anchor thingies. Given the large screen, there is room enough to dodge, but then firing off lasers to hit him and dodging any bullets at the same time is hard. It is important to shoot the Glutton while it's far away from you and when you are in line with it, because this simplifies the dodging. Ideally you should fire so that the Glutton is destroyed as it leaves Fatty Glutton'
s mouth. You probably will have a bad hit/miss ratio at the end of this fight, and the rotating cubes will probably harass you here.
In Darius Gaiden, as a bow to the older himself, Fatty Glutton is heralded by thingies (as all old bosses in this game are). A Super Crazy Boss Tactic (TM) suggested by Randorama to deal with them involves flying above him. Depending on whih zone you're in (K or O), his attacks vary considerably. In Zone K, his first attack is piddling; he blows tiles off himself and spits out little Gluttons which don't explode as before. He also tries to ram you and will fire streams of attack thingies to keep you on your toes (no big deal with 4-way bombs).
In, Zone O he first uses the 'classical' Fatty Glutton attack with some lazy pulsed bullets thrown in. If you're at Zone O, you probably beat Neon Light Illusion last stage, so pulsed bullets should be your bread and butter. When both forms have taken enough damage (and you can tell that by the way their bodywork strips), their attacks change for the worse. Zone K has you fend off wicked bullet arcs from Fatty Glutton's mouth and nasty curves of lasers. Very tricky there, I black-hole-bombed my way out of trouble.
Fatty Glutton in Zone O.
Zone O's Fatty Glutton's second attacks are equally nasty but more avoidable. He first fires three line-of-death lasers below his mouth and then fires four Gluttons which explode into the usual bullet arcs. Since there are four and the lasers can constrain you, it may seem hellish, but in fact staying exactly in line with his mouth can save you considerable grief (see above as well). He then fires a lot of straight lasers in a vaguely diagonal way which covers a large sweep of the screen. You can easily pick your path though, but try and stay above him or well below him because the lasers will fire again. And so on, to death.
