After kicking Golden Ogre's ass and if you decide to go to level B in Darius Gaiden, you will run into this earth-grubbing character at its end. He comes at the end of a fairly easy stage, but with no real fanfare (sigh). Just, you know, bounce-bounce-banzai or something like that, kicking up a constant cloud of dirt in front of him as he does so.
Ancient Dozer keeps on sweeping into and out of the plane of attack, in a nice display of scaling.
Tips: 'It 'im hanywhere while he's in your plane of attack. His chief weapons are a few laser cannons and a missile launcher, the latter being the thing you should seek to destroy first. He moves back and forth, shooting lasers at different angles and a few missiles. When he moves all the way to the front of the screen, the cannons sweep up and down and shoot, and Dozerboy starts shooting bullets from the rear, and not from a destructible location either (sigh..). When he sweeps out of the plane, he shoots big blue energy balls which can only be avoided. When he sweeps back in, he provocatively bounces into view, so avoid a collision.
Keep at it long enough, and the front of him blows up and he takes to the sky. He is a bit trickier as he still has the blue balls going at you, and a straight eye-laser and a fluorescent homing laser coming in at you. If you stay put until the last minute before dodging, the latter should not be a problem. You can have a bit of fun blowing off the appendages near his 'mouth', though. Unfortunately, Ancient Dozer doesn't die spectacularly enough to warrant a screenshot of his own.

Real-Life Inspiration:The horseshoe crab(Limulus polyphemus). Limulus is an ancient-as-hell arachnid. However, this page casts some extra light on why he was chosen as a boss. Interesting.
(Source: The Horseshoe Crab. Very nicely done, so much so that I am too lazy to add any more information. Go there at once!)
